Ronin BJJ Brazilian Jiu jitsu Training Philosophy

Ultimately we chose Ronin BJJ as our name to represent the academy's philosophical approach to teaching and learning. We encourage cooperative learning both in and out of the academy. Ronin BJJ looks to our students as training partners and peers and hope to be measured by their success. We consider our academy to be an ego free learning environment. Simply put, paying homage to our coaches is not required, only willingness to learn while respecting your fellow students and coaches.

Luis finished the 2014 season by taking Gold at IBJJF Pan Ams Masters Black Belt Division

Andrew is a IBJJF recognized Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 2nd Degree Black Belt and Assistant Coach at Ronin BJJ. Stylistically he blends several grappling styles into his BJJ game including Freestyle Wrestling, Catch Wrestling, and No Gi BJJ. Andrew has trained with dozens of the top professional BJJ practitioners in the New England area . Despite injuries to his cervical spine in 2004 and a 5 year absence form competition Andrew managed to win a Silver Medal in the NAGA New England(s) 2009 Expert division. Andrew is also the 2014 CTBJJ Brown Belt Heavy Weight Champion. In Addition to his BJJ practice Andrew also is a true Mixed Martial Artist who holds a Black Belt in Kenpo Karate and has studied Boxing and Full contact MMA.

Luis Figueroa competing at the IBJJF 2014 Black Belt Pan Am Games

Luis is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu 3rd Degree Black Belt and an IBJJF certified Instructor. He is perhaps the most competition tested practitioners on the East Coast having placed in the top 3 in over 50 grappling events over a 15 year career including IBJJF, NAGA, Grappler Quest, Tap Cancer Out and many others. He has also coached hundreds of students over the years, many of which have successfully competed in organized tournaments. Luis's students can range from beginners to expert level sport practitioners. Professor Figueroa also believes in training diversity having competed and coached in Judo, Scholastic Wrestling (Assistant Coach (CCS) and is a Pro MMA veteran.
